Description: This file depicts the boundaries of Public Use Microdata Areas (PUMAs) identified in the 5% State Public Use Microdata Sample from the 1990 Census of Population and Housing. The file was created at the University of Minnesota for the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS-USA--http://usa.ipums.org).The boundaries in this file are derived from boundary files from the National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS--http://www.nhgis.org), which are in turn based on the U.S. Census Bureau's 2000 TIGER/Line files, with coastal water areas erased.The file was updated in February 2017 with these changes:-- Distinct Alaska and Hawaii files were merged into one file with the contiguous U.S.-- Filename and attribute table fields were adjusted for consistency with other IPUMS boundary files-- Boundaries in Ketchikan Gateway Borough, Alaska, were corrected to represent land and water areas accurately
